About Me

Hello! My name is Yasmine Shubber and I'm a freshman at Cascadia Community College through the Running Start program. I’m currently getting my prerequisites for a STEM-related field such as Computer Science or Engineering in hopes of transferring to a four-year university. My interest in technology definitely developed later than most. In my first years of high school, I was so lost in the type of career I would like to pursue. I had always had an interest in technology, but it wasn't until I met with Savani, an employee at T-Mobile who instantly deflated my doubts about the technology field. She explained the power technology can hold- how you can create immense change. She led me to the realization that I could use my passion for immigrant and refugee reform and use my intrigue in tech to promote inclusivity and success among them. This led me to partner with the World Relief Organization to create an outreach program for children who don't have access to proper Computer Science education. Once I saw the spark these children had as I taught them their first HTML Tag and Java Command I immediately knew that technology was a career I would want to pursue because every time I complete a project or debug a program I get that same exact spark which is honeslty one of the greatest feelings.

Outside of Computer Science I enjoy spending time with family and traveling. One of my dream destinations is probably Greece- I just find the architecture and the history behind the country so beautiful. I'm also a big foodie- I'm probably one of the pickiest eaters, but I definitely have some favorite spots like the Vanilla Monk Blend at Tea Republic in University District and the Pad See Ew at Thai Isarn. I’m always down for an adventure and hope that once the pandemic wears done I can start to travel again and try out new things!
